Shadows of Doubt hits v1.0
2024-09-10
Last week, after many years of work, Shadows of Doubt finally reached v1. As well the Steam version this milestone coincided with a cross-platform console release.
PC Gamer ran a solid review which included this lovely excerpt which makes all the extra work, detail and thought I put into the game's audio feel worth it. Very few game reviews ever mention sound specifically, but this is close enough:
"Shadows of Doubt gets a lot of things right, but I don't think I loved anything more than I loved the experience of just wandering its streets, flats, and hallways. This is a game which knows vibe, from the rain hammering on the glass of an eerily silent apartment to the tannoys blaring ads in the streets to the discomfiting whirr of a security camera in an unlit room. It knows exactly when to spin up its sparse, synthy soundtrack and when to let diegetic sound (or its absence) do the talking."
The freshly mastered version my soundtrack has also been released and is available in the supporter editions (along with an artbook pdf). The OST comes in at 58 minutes spread over 37 tracks.
The game was an enormous amount of effort from a very small group of people. It was a privilege to be one of them.
